Sports Memorabilia
Sports memorabilia is a huge business and new sports memorabilia is being produced every day. Every time some noteworthy even occurs in sports, more sports memorabilia is created. And the seemingly unimportant players of today who could be the superstars of tomorrow are creating sports memorabilia with everything they touch. But the main interest in sports memorabilia is the sports memorabilia having to do with famous players and events from the past. Sports memorabilia that is valuable is not necessarily very old, but it lot of it is. Some sports memorabilia is important because the player associated with it was a superstar. Some sports memorabilia is important because the player associated with it became infamous in some way. And some sports memorabilia is important because it demarcates a significant event in sports history. And then some sports memorabilia isn't really important at all, its just sports memorabilia. Old stuff from and about half forgotten players from the past is sports memorabilia too. It's just not valuable. Certain items of sports memorabilia are quite valuable. These items of sports memorabilia are usually things like the baseball that was hit for a record breaking lifetime home run record by a certain player. This type of sports memorabilia has instant value and does not need to be old to be worth plenty. The bat that was used to hit that record breaking home run also instantly became a valuable item of sports memorabilia. Many such sports memorabilia items exist, but each is unique and some of these items of sport memorabilia are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. People's appetite for this type of sports memorabilia seems quite unquenchable. And it seems there is always some sort of sports memorabilia auction going on someplace where someone is willing to pay some amount that is a record breaking amount to pay for an item of sports memorabilia. Sports memorabilia that is old and valuable can also be extremely rare. Even items of sports memorabilia that were mass produced at the time of their creation can become quite valuable if not many of that item survived the passage of time. This is true of things like baseball cards, football cards, commemorative items, team articles of clothing, hats, for example and game day items that end up being distributed on the day of a game that, for some reason makes history. Some collectors of sports memorabilia realize the value of a certain item and, rather than keeping it to themselves for their own collections, donate the item to a museum for everyone to enjoy, give it up to a fundraising event to be sold off to some other sports memorabilia collector... and the cycle continues.
