Some people have said that they would rather run their business without employees then run it without advertising. Though this viewpoint may be a bit extreme, it does point to the fact that business advertising is a very important part of running a successful business. Whether your business is retail or wholesale, whether you are marketing a product or service, you will most likely need to do some business advertising. They are so many forms of business advertising available today it is hard to choose among them. But it has always been difficult to pinpoint exactly what business advertising that you have done, has been effective. The old saying goes, that at least half of your business advertising is a waste, you just don't know which half. Well that's saying is just as true today if not even more so due to the confusing array of business advertising options.

All of business advertising methods have some logic on their side as to why they should be effective. But are they efficient means of business advertising? Will they make the cash register ring? Because ultimately that is the goal of all business advertising. Whether it may be very subtle and round about, it is all about moving product eventually, isn't it? Before doing any business advertising, you need to be very clear and what your objectives are to. If you are not clear about your objectives for your business advertising then you will not have any reliable method for judging the success or failure of your business advertising. You need to sit down and really think about what is the you hope to accomplish through business advertising. Are you considering business advertising to directly sell certain products? Are you considering business advertising to bring you more customers in general? Are you thinking about business advertising to improve your company's image in the marketplace? Or are you considering business advertising just because you want to see your big smiling face up on the Billboard or be recognized at the local bank because you are in all those commercials on TV? You need to be clear about what it is you hope to accomplish because that will determine not only how you measure your success, but your objectives will help determine what medium or mix of media you use for your business advertising.

Different forms of business advertising reach different audiences and in different ways. What your objective for your business advertising is will help determine who your business advertising target is and who your target audience is will help determine what media you use for your business advertising.
