No matter how fast or powerful a computer is, it isn't of much use without computer software. It is a symbiotic relationship. computer software wouldn't be able to run without the hardware and the hardware is useless without computer software, but people wouldn't want computers unless they could do cool things and the only way to make a computer do the things that will make enough people want them is through computer software. There are many types of computer software. There is the computer software that makes the big mainframe computers run and crunch all their amazing amounts of data, but this computer software, but this type of computer software, by its very nature is limited in its appeal. And there is the computer software that runs all the incredible medical equipment that saves lives. And there is the computer software that powers the space program and puts men into space. And there is the computer software that allow all of your various communications systems to function-the TV, radio, cable and telephone industries would be vastly different without computer software. So many of the things that they do could not be done without computer software. But the computer software that has the widest popular appeal is the computer software that makes people's personal computers do all the cool things that people buy computers for and most of it has to do with entertainment and the internet. Nothing your personal computer does for you is vital to y our continued existence, so basically, everything it does for you is one form of entertainment or another. Even the most serious of consumers computer software is really just well disguised entertainment. The computer software that does outright entertainment is easier to point to as just that, an entertainment vehicle. There is computer software to show your movies and computer software to help you download and playback all your favorite music. There is computer software that delivers to you all the entertainment functions of the internet right to your personal computer. You can play games, look at news, watch videos, look at endless amounts of photographs and read websites, all on the internet and all because of computer software. Computers are impressive machines, but without computer software, they are just very expensive paperweights. So the next time you ooh and ah over the newest, fastest, most powerful computer ever, remember that it is the computer software that makes it do the things that makes it attractive and valuable to you.
