Check Out The Facebook Makeover
Facebook started out as a site for Harvard students. It was a place for them to meet and share ideas and information. But since it was greatly accepted right away, Facebook was extended to include other Ivy League students. This again was a click among college and university students. In September 2006, working adults and other folks were welcomed to join as well. Bells And Whistles Made Secure As soon as Facebook was opened to everybody, new members flooded the network. At this time Facebook also received numerous complaints from its users. Their profiles gave out too much of their identity to the public. Facebook took these complaints in. And together with feedbacks it gathered from thousands of its users, it began to make changes. Now members can only view the networks that they belong to. They can also only view the networks that they are eligible for. Greater control has been given to its members as well. Personal profiles are no longer free for all. This feature enables users to show only what they want to reveal about themselves. As a result, making up virtual personalities has become less prevalent. Facebook have now made social networking easier and simpler. Logging in gets you a good view of what is new in your network instantly. Your page contains everything there is to know about your friends. Their profiles are easier to access and you come to know the latest happening in their lives right away. Birthdays are posted too. So you never miss greeting them on their Big Day. You are notified if you have new messages and you were “poked” by a friend. All these features and new improvement have been slowly introduced into the system. But they are credited for largely improving the Facebook popularity in the World Wide Web. This is said to be the reason for the homogeneous increase in its membership. From 7.5 million users Facebook had before making this makeover, it now boasts of 19 million members. There are also 47,000 networks that have been created within the whole social network. And according comScore Networks, the site has had 24.8 million visitors since September 2006. This is a whooping 75% increase and there is a great disparity if we compare it the increase MySpace had. MySpace only had a 26% increase in that same period. Inviting more people to Facebook had made it the biggest and the most popular social network that it is today. And improving its platform has truly strengthened its position. But it is its drive to keep its users secure and attend to their demands and needs that really is driving Facebook towards the top slot among the social networking sites.
