Facebook And Rumors
While it has earned hundreds and thousands of accolades from more than 45 million faithful members around the world, Facebook has also been a subject of interesting and sometimes intriguing rumors. From rumors of a google merger to rumors of an apparent MP3 store being launched by Facebook, there are all kinds of rumors pertaining to Facebook that keep floating on the internet from time to time. So let us take a look at some of the most popular rumors about Facebook. Yahoo To Snag Up Facebook I wrote this one first because it certainly takes the cake. This rumor arose more than 6 times on the internet that Yahoo's Terry Semmel (CEO at the time) was about to snag up Facebook. This rumor faded down as Facebook rejected the proposal and then came Microsoft. Microsoft’s overture has also been rejected by Facebook. Apparently, with Facebooks advertising revenues sagging in the last few months, Microsoft is all set to approach Facebook again with plans of a takeover. However, Mark Zuckerberg has made it clear that he has plans to go the IPO way and not for a merger with any existing company. We will all wait for truth to prevail and meanwhile let’s wait and see what new rumor springs up. Facebook To Launch An iTunes Competitor There have been reports that Facebook has been working since March to launch an MP3 store that is similar to iTunes. The rumor mill also adds that there is an active search for a new CEO to head that division. However, there has been no official declaration about the same from any sources within the company. It is said that the company could well follow the DRM-free model of music that has been popularized by Amazon. Facebook Going The Myspace Way Although it has easily overtaken Flickr as the number one image site, Facebook has been unable to tap into the music scenario. Most bands still prefer myspace as it so much more to offer when compared to Facebook. Hence, it was reported on paidContent.org that Facebook will be starting a new section that will offer much more to bands than Myspace does. Bands will now be able to create pages with extensive multimedia support. The pages will also have custom wedges so that they can add their events and music too. Users will be able to listen, analyze and even purchase music from this new service. Hence according to this rumor, Facebook is competing with Myspace and not with iTunes which directly contradicts our earlier one. Whew! The Facebook Email Application Now that Facebook is launching a music platform and an MP3 store, why should it be left behind in email? According to the rumor mills, Facebook is all set to launch an email application that will have feature like external email integration, no size limits and contact groups.
