Getting Started With Facebook
Signing up with Facebook is on any high school and college student’s high priority list and once signed up, the next step is to log in every single day. Belonging to Facebook is quickly becoming a ‘must-do’ online. Although the site was meant for only Harvard students when it was launched, today anyone can be a part of it. This has led to it being effectively used by entrepreneurs and businessmen as a business-networking site. So, how does one get started with this massive phenomenon that is Facebook? Getting A Profile And Using It The first step is to sign up and make your profile. Adding a photo will make it more meaningful. The ‘about you’ section must be completed with full information about your business, along with links to your website. After the profile is finished, the next thing is to grow your list. You can invite everyone you know; this could be your friends, colleagues at work, customers, and associates. The longer your list, the bigger your network will be. Keeping In Touch After your list is built, it is necessary to keep in active touch with those on your list. This could be through posting comments every time new information is added, wishing them on birthdays, congratulating them on achievements, etc. The ideal places to post comments are on photos as they are added; profile Walls, and people’s Notes. Notes are very useful on Facebook. They help you write about your products, services, news, etc. on the website. The concept of keyword rich content enabling people to find you work here, too, when you write Notes. If you maintain a blog, by inputting your RSS feed, you can have your posts appear on your Notes leading people to your blog. In the Facebook Events section, you can let the people in your network know about a specific event or party that you are hosting and use it to invite them. Next comes the ‘Marketplace’, by far the most useful feature on Facebook when it comes to advertising. The Photos and Videos section lets you share all your pictures with everyone you know. Facebook is the biggest photo-sharing site on the Internet. You can also create photo albums related to your business to promote yourself. The same goes for uploading videos. The ‘applications’ on Facebook can be added to your profile, based on their relevance, but remember not to clutter your profile with too many elements. You can make good use of the ‘join groups’ feature by joining the largest groups, again, based on whether it is relevant to you. Making Facebook work for you involves a high level of interaction on the website by posting comments, taking part in discussions on topics of interest and expanding your friends’ list.
