Is Facebook Secure Enough?
Facebook has grown in popularity by leaps and bounds. Initially they had only allowed college students to become members but now there are no such restrictions. Facebook is a social networking site that has become extremely popular. It is now not only a great way to interact with your friends but also a channel to interact with your business associates. This site is also a great place to enhance your business. A lot of deals are struck here. But if you still have doubts about the way the site operates and its efficacy, then you must conduct a thorough research study. You can take word of mouth opinion too. You must sign up only if you are totally convinced about the entire scenario. Safety Aspects Of Facebook Any social networking site is bound to have unwanted elements who misuse the site by victimising children. Even Myspace had to delete thousands of profiles from their site when they came under the scanner of the US government. Facebook has admitted itself that they are not too responsive to the various complaints that come to them regarding harassment and pornography. But now they have decided that they will be more proactive and protect children from stuff that is harmful to them. They realise that so much negative publicity about their security aspects will hamper their image in the long term. So they have pulled up their socks and got down to action. We must thank New York attorney Andrew Cuomo who carried out his own investigations when he received various complaints. He pointed out various flaws in the way Facebook handled complaints. Thus, the site has decided to refurbish their methods of dealing with such complaints for mutual benefit. They are now seriously taking up the cause of restricting unwanted approaches and unsuitable content. Given below are the new policies of Facebook regarding handling the complaints of the users. • They have decided that they will act immediately towards any complaint that deals with unsolicited approach, pornography and harassment. They will not delay under any circumstances. • They have decided to act as fact as possible. They will process the complaint within twenty-four hours and then implement actions within seventy-two hours. • The users who sign up for creating their profile will be told and warned about the various risks, those are associated with social networking sites. Only when they accept the terms and conditions will they be able to register themselves. This is a decent beginning. There are many other things that can be done though, but all in good time. Whatever steps are implemented, it is necessary to monitor the policy and measure its effectiveness with the help of experts.
