The Invasion Of Facebook
Do not be surprised at all if the name of this article sounds like a sci-fi movie from the late 1950’s. This is virtually what has happened in the last few years. Social networking has become a core part of our lives. What started as a medium of transferring information has now become a socio-cultural hub for the youth of the country. Very few people have even realized how Facebook has quietly invaded our lives. According to a recent survey, an average American netizen (one who is a virtual citizen) spends more than 19 minutes everyday on Facebook. But if you are a newbie and have somehow managed to stay away from the hysteria surrounding social networking and Facebook, then you might just start to wonder what it’s all about. What does one do everyday on Facebook? Things To Do Well, there are very limited things that you can do in any social networking site. In Facebook, you can share photos, write on each other’s walls and even send a few friendly pokes. If you are interested in a particular topic or group, you can invite your friends to join you in discussion. You can discuss just about anything under the sun from the dark spots on the moon to homosexuality. In order to enhance the user experience Facebook recently launched a platform for budding developers to try out their own applets. So, do not be surprised if you get strange invitations. I was recently invited to be a vampire and a zombie too. Ok, that’s all folks! But, the best and the most addictive part is the networking. You can search for new friends, everyday. You never know who you are going to bump into. In fact when a person’s friends and network grows, the entire network is going to benefit from it. Stay Connected Apart from the nudges and pokes, it is a huge global platform that can connect you with virtually anyone from anywhere. If you have a friend whom you last met when you were in kindergarten, chances are that you might find him on Facebook with the numerous schools, colleges and universities listed here. The very meaning of the phrase ‘Facebook’ is to collect information as well as photos to help one adapt to college life. However, in its virtual form, Facebook has extended this to after college as well. Today, in our fast-paced life, when do we find time to socialize? How many times have you gone out in the last few months? Chances are very rare that socializing has been a prominent part of your life after college. Facebook can keep this part alive. There’s A World Out There To Explore As of today, there are more than 40 million users on Facebook. Now, that is a huge number of people. You have the whole world to explore over here. Just get started.
