Fashion Design
Fashion design is a career choice chosen by artistic individuals who have an interest in fashion and like the idea of influencing what other people will wear and use in their wardrobes and their homes. Fashion design could also include interior decorating as well as clothes design and jewelry design and hair styling and footwear design. Fashion design is about creating items for living. And fashion design, like all artistic expression reflects the condition of society at any given time and becomes an integral part of the culture. Fashion design tends to be a very fluid aspect of our culture and changes from season to season, year to year, but some fashion design, once adopted can last for decades or even centuries, with minor changes in certain aspects of it, but basically remaining constant. An example of a fairly constant fashion design in Western culture is skirt and dresses for women. Most women have at least one form of a skirt or dress in their closet. Some women have dozens, but For centuries, some style of skirt or dress has been a standard part of a woman's wardrobe. But the specifics of that particular fashion design has, of course, changed literally hundreds of times. Sometimes dozens of style of both skirts and dresses may be in vogue at once and at other times in history, perhaps just a few. Fashion design is also about not only dress, but about home decorating. Again, in Wester culture, there has been a fairly steady acceptance with a certain basic design in home fashion and that has been around a typical group of furniture items for certain rooms in the home. A table and chairs or benches for dining, as on example. Or a bed and some kind of wardrobe or chest for clothing for a bedroom. Now, take the bedroom, for instance. The actual design of the bed can be any one of many, many types. There are Murphy beds that fold out of the wall. There are trundle beds that conceal a second mattress under the first. There are sofa beds that serve as couches during the day and fold out beds by night. There are bunk beds that stack one bed over another and use a ladder to access the top bunk. There are single, double, queen and king sized beds. Fashion design includes things like the headboard and footboard of a bed. They can be made of many different materials and they can be simple or elaborate in line and decoration. And fashion design in beds will also include the bedding. Tailored, ruffled, masculine, childish, whimsical, so many things to consider when undertaking fashion design for the home.
