About Free Kicks In Football
Football is a game of kicking the ball. In fact, the very reason why this game is so popular all over the world is the very fact that kicking some thing is in the nature of the human being. It is a very common practice that when we walk and some pebble or stone comes in the way, we kick it – may be in anger or ecstasy or just for light fun. The free kicks in the game of football play a very important component. However, free kicks do not mean that they are free from rules. There are certain rules that the players have to follow while attempting the free kicks. Two Types Of Free Kicks There are basically two types of free kicks – direct and indirect. As per the rules of football, the ball must be stationary, before the player could attempt the free kick. What is more, the player attempting the free kick must note that he or she does not have to make a second touch on the ball after kicking the ball, until any other player has touched the ball. If the striker makes a second touch to the ball before the ball being touched by any other player, the free kicks will be awarded to the opponent team, at the place where the infringement took place. The free kicks may be allowed inside or outside the penalty area. Free Kicks Outside The Penalty Area When the free kicks are allowed outside the penalty area, the following football rules are applied.
• The referee must award free kicks to a team, at the place where the infringement took place.
• After the striker kicks the ball, everyone else is free to play the ball. However, the striker cannot make a second contact with the ball before any other player has touched the same.
• As you can see, the ball comes into play, only after the striker has kicked it. Before the ball is kicked, rest of the players of the both the teams must have their positions at least ten yards from the ball. Performing Free Kicks Inside The Penalty Area The players must follow the following football rules, while attempting free kicks inside the penalty area. Depending upon whether the free kicks are being attempted to the defending or the attacking team, there are different sets of football rules to follow. For example, the players other than the striker and the goalie must be at least ten yards away from the ball. There are also certain disciplinary sanctions that the referee may take, if he or she finds any infringement of the football rules. Happy playing!
