The Football Field
The laws of the football allow the matches to be played on either artificial or natural surfaces. However, how the game will be conducted will eventually depend upon the specific rules of the competition. Here is an overview of the football field and important markings: Markings On The Field • There is a halfway line in the middle of the field that divides the field into two parts – one half for each team. At the middle point of this halfway line, a small circle is marked with the radius of ten yards. This center mark indicates the middle of the field. • All the four sides of the field are marked with lines. These lines indicate the boundaries of the field of the football match. • The field is usually in the shape of a rectangle, where the longer boundary lines are known as touch lines and the shorter ones are known as goal lines. The shorter lines are located behind the goalposts. The Area Of The Goalposts Goal posts are located at each end of the field near the goal lines (the shorter lines). Two more lines are drawn near the goal area that is located at least six yards from the inside of each of the goal posts. The area that is constituted by these lines and the goal lines is known as the goal area. The Position Of Goal Posts The position of each goal post must be the center of the respective goal lines. In order to build a goal post, two upright posts are used. These posts must be placed on equal distance from the flag posts placed in the corners. A horizontal cross bar then joins these two posts from the top. As per the football laws, it is also mandatory to keep the color of the goalposts and crossbars as white. What is more, for safety reasons, it is also necessary that the goalposts must be properly anchored to the ground. In modern football matches, even portable goal posts are now being used, but there are set standard that they must meet. The Flag Posts A flag post is placed on each of the four corners of the field of the football match. The height of the flag post must not be more than five feet or one and a half meters. What is more, the top of the flag posts must be non-pointed. It is not mandatory, but sometimes, the flag posts are also located at the both ends of the half line, but outside the touchline (the longer lines). The flag posts must be placed here at least one yard or one meter outside the touchline.
