The History Of FootballThe history of football is some 125 years old. As per the popular belief, England is supposed to be the origin of this game. This is where soccer was born. In the United States, the last thirty years have been very crucial, as this is the period when the game gained ultimate popularity in America. You can imagine its popularity with this very fact that at present, almost three million children play under the various youth soccer leagues, throughout the nation. People from all age group are now crazy towards this game. The journey of football is quite long and interesting and you its popularity can be evaluated by the very fact that it is now considered as the most favorite sports of the world. The Origin It all began in England, somewhere around 1850. Initially, it was a game that only aristocratic English classes would play in boarding schools and private clubs. However, it gained rapid popularity and very soon football became the game of the masses. Gaining Popularity In Europe The credit to make the game popular in Europe goes to the London Football Association. This association was founded in 1863, and in just twenty years of its establishment, the association did a fantastic job and the game gained rapid popularity in all parts of Europe. France, Italy, Germany and Spain were among the nations that took this game seriously and by the early twentieth century, football became a popular game in these countries. Football At Olympics It was in the year of 1900, that the football match became a part of the Olympics. However, no medals were awarded to the winners then. The medals were introduced from the 1908 Olympics. Initially, the game was played as a demonstration sport only. What is more, the interesting fact is that for the next 80 years, since the introduction of football at Olympics, no professional players were allowed to play. It used to be a game between armature teams. The first intercontinental football Competition was organized in the year 1924, at the summer Olympics by FIFA. The Organization Of FIFA FIFA was founded in 1904, with the responsibility to spread the popularity of the game to the different parts of the world. After organizing the first World Cup international competition in 1924 at the Olympics, it started organizing a round-robin style tournament every four year, which we commonly refer to as FIFA world cup football. Every four year, this competition is organized. Almost two hundred teams participate in the qualifying process, but only almost 30 teams get the chance to play in the tournament.
