Home Remedies For Dry Eyes


Dry Eyes may not be considered a very serious problem by most people, but you may be annoyed to know that how seriously the problem may worsen if not treated at the proper time. The home remedy for tired eyes treatment can be very effective. Following are some of the remedies to cure tired eyes.

* To reduce the inflammation and provide comfort to the tired eyes, they should be washed with cold water at regular intervals. This procedure should be avoided if you are a contact lens wearer. As the bacteria from the water will cause interference with the lens and lead to infection.

* A cold compressor like a wet cloth or a towel should be applied 4-5 times a day on your eyes at least for 2 minutes.

* Place the slices of a fresh cucumber on your eyes for sometime to relax your tired eyes.

* Take some water in a bowl. Add 2 drops of lavender oil to it and stir well. Dip two cotton balls gently in this solution and by squeezing out the extra water place them on your eyes for sometime. It gives a soothing and a calming effect to your eyes.

* Place two cotton balls soaked in tea on your eyes for about 5 minutes. When the cotton dries up, remove it and soak them again in warm tea.

* If you wearing lenses, then you should go in for artificial tears available like Hypo tears, Moisture Drops or Tears Naturale. Apply them at once and you can repeat them whenever needed.

Day - To - Day Strategies: - Once you find comfort, you can follow the following guidelines to get long lasting relief.

1. Humidify the place where you work

You can place a humidifier around your work place, if dry atmosphere around you is one of the cause of your eye problems.

2. Use tears profusely

Artificial tears do not cause any harm to your eyes and so they can be used as frequently as twice or thrice a day to about every 20 minutes, suggests Dr. Monica.

3. Keep the eyes moist before hair drying

If you are using a hair dryer, it is advisable to moisten your eyes with artificial tears before and after the dry to prevent your eyes from drying.

4. Use preservative-free tears

If you are a contact lens wearer, then always use preservative-free artificial tears for your eyes such as Celluvise or Hypotears PF. This keeps you away from the adverse effects of the preservatives to your lenses.

5. Live in a smoke-free environment

The smoke of the cigarette causes irritation in your eye. Staying away from smoke helps to solve the overall problem.

6. Pretreat during bedtime

If your eyes burn or scratch when you wake up, then you can use ointments such as Lacrilube before going to bed. It is only for overnight use and helps to lubricate your eyes.

7. Wear lenses part-time

To reduce the strain caused by dry eyes, remove the lens before going to bed and at the end of your work.
