Oh, they weren't terrible reliable and they were pretty slow compared to today's personal computers, but computers in the home were now a reality. the stuff of science fiction was coming true. All because of the micro chip. Chip makers were stacking more and more components on each tiny chip. chips became faster and faster. The computer in your home became more and more powerful. As the speed and storage capacity of the computer in the home grew so did their functionality. Computers in the home could do more and more things. There were becoming more and more useful and computers in the home were getting cheaper and cheaper. As computers in the home became more prevalent, software became more plentiful and with each new generation of home computer, software became more and more robust. All of these trends conspired to make computers in the home more and more widespread and accepted. Until the present time when people not only have a computer in their home, they have several. sometimes every member of the family has one. And computers in the home are not just limited to personal computers. No. Now your car has its own computer. Your heating and air conditioning system has its own computer. Your refrigerator has its own computer. And on and on. Computers in the home are here in a big way and computers in the home are here to stay.
